MEET US:
The Doctors who consult at our premises all enjoy family healthcare, but also all have special interests in specific areas of health.
Dr Stuart Baines
MBChB, FRACGP
Dr Baines was born and raised in Namibia, Southern Africa and completed his MBChB at the University of Cape Town in 1989. After a brief stint in hospital medicine, he decided General Practice was his passion and he went into practice in Cape Town in 1992.
He migrated to Australia with his family in 2006 and obtained his Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners. He joined Wamberal Surgery in early 2010. Although he has diplomas in Travel medicine, Skin cancer and Healthcare economics, Dr Baines regards himself as a true generalist and enjoys all aspects of caring for families and children.
Dr Annette Barkey
MBBS, DRCOG
Dr Barkey obtained her Medical Degree at University of NSW in Sydney, and completed her GP training in the UK.
On returning to Australia, she moved to the Central Coast where she worked as a GP at 2 practices in Erina before joining Wamberal Surgery in 2004.
Dr Barkey’s main interests are in Women’s Health. She is involved in antenatal shared care and contributes to the Central Coast Division of GP Pap Smear Outreach Clinic in Wyong on a part-time basis.
Dr. Arthur Belthikiotis
MBBS FRACGP Post. Grad. Diploma Physical Medicine
Dr. Arthur Belthikiotis graduated from the University of Sydney in 1992 and completed his hospital training at Lidcombe and Bankstown Hospitals. He obtained his Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners in 1996 and then completed a Post Graduate Diploma of Physical Medicine at the University of Sydney in 2000. He is also a certified Dive Medical Examiner.
Dr. Belthikiotis has worked as a G.P in Bathurst, Parramatta and Surfers Paradise, where he ran his own Practice. He commenced working at Wamberal Surgery in 2012.
He has a special interest in Occupational Health and enjoys the diversity of General Practice.
Dr Debra Cook
MBBS
Dr Cook graduated from the University of NSW in 1983. She then moved and worked in Canberra, Perth and Suva, Fiji before returning to Australia in 1988 and settled in the Central Coast. She worked for 4 years at Gateway Medical Centre in Gosford and then joined Wamberal Surgery in 1991 and has been here since.
Dr Cook has a special interest in women’s and children’s health, provides antenatal shared care and is accredited to insert Implanon.
She has enjoyed watching her patients grow to be young adults, parents and even now some who are grandparents.
Dr Graham McSwan
B.Pharm (Syd), B.Med (Newcastle), FRACGP
Dr Graham McSwan has worked extensively in General Practice. He has attained degrees in both Pharmacy and Medicine having studied at Sydney University and subsequently at the University of Newcastle.
Dr McSwan trained at The Prince of Wales Hospital, Randwick, in many areas including – Paediatrics, Geriatrics, General Surgery, General Medicine, Anaesthetics and Emergency Medicine. He specialised in General Practice and is a Fellow of the College of General Practitioners.
He has diverse areas of interest in General Practice including preventative medicine, paediatrics, geriatrics and sports medicine.
Dr McSwan enjoys all sports, particularly cricket, tennis, soccer and NRL and spends most of his spare time transporting his children to and from these venues.
Dr Colin Massie
MBChB, MRCGP, Dip Occ Medicine
Dr Massie graduated from Dundee University, Scotland in 1989. Shortly after completing his GP training programme (MRCGP) in 1992 he emigrated to Australia.
Initially he worked for 3 years in GP and Occupational Medicine for a mining company in remote WA before settling on the Central Coast. He then held various Medical Registrar posts with Central Coast Health including Community Geriatrics Registrar.
He has a Diploma in Occupational Medicine (London), a Certificate in Aviation Medicine and also has certified training as a Diving and Railways Medical Examiner.
As well as his interest in General Practice, Musculoskeletal Medicine and Sports Medicine, Dr Massie works in Occupational Health servicing some of the large corporations on the coast and acting as a Workcover accredited Injury Management Consultant. Dr Massie is currently trying to find time to complete a Diploma in Orthopaedic (Musculoskeletal) Medicine.
Dr Richard Oak
BSc, BMed, FRACGP
Dr Oak has lived and worked on the Central Coast for over 25 years. He graduated from Newcastle University, completed his early training at John Hunter Hospital and worked as a registrar in Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation with the Central Coast Area Health Service for 3 years.
Dr Oak acquired his Fellowship of the RACGP in 1996 and has since worked as a GP in Gosford, Erina and now Wamberal. He also has advanced training in Musculo-skeletal Medicine, Vascular Medicine and Ultrasound, Aesthetic Medicine and skin cancer. He is currently undertaking advanced training in the use of cosmetic and vascular laser, and Botox.
Dr Oak’s interests include General Practice, Sports Medicine, Pain management, Aesthetic and Vascular Laser treatments and skin cancer.
Dr Joachim Sturmberg
MBBS, Dip RACOG, FRACGP, MFM, PhD
Dr Sturmberg achieved his medical degree in Germany and emigrated to Australia in 1985. He re-trained in Australia and gained his MBBS in Sydney. He moved to the Central Coast and commenced working at Wamberal Surgery in 1989 and has been here ever since.
Dr Sturmberg has a special interest in allergies, integrated comprehensive care, nursing home care, skin surgery, research of quality primary care and health care reform. He has had articles published in medical journals and is actively involved in assisting the University of Newcastle with medical student training.
The doctors each operate their own independent practice at Wamberal Surgery.
