Meet our friendly team

The Doctors who consult at our premises all enjoy family healthcare, but also all have special interests in specific areas of health.

Dr Annette Barkey

MBBS, DRCOG

Dr Barkey obtained her Medical Degree at University of NSW in Sydney, and completed her GP training in the UK.

On returning to Australia, she moved to the Central Coast where she worked as a GP at 2 practices in Erina before joining Wamberal Surgery in 2004.

Dr Barkey’s main interests are in Women’s Health. She is involved in antenatal shared care and contributes to the Central Coast Division of GP Pap Smear Outreach Clinic in Wyong on a part-time basis.

 

Dr Debra Cook

MBBS

Dr Cook graduated from the University of NSW in 1983. She then moved and worked in Canberra, Perth and Suva, Fiji before returning to Australia in 1988 and settled in the Central Coast.

She worked for 4 years at Gateway Medical Centre in Gosford and then joined Wamberal Surgery in 1991 and has been here since.

Dr Cook has a special interest in women’s and children’s health, provides antenatal shared care and is accredited to insert Implanon.

She has enjoyed watching her patients grow to be young adults, parents and even now some who are grandparents.

Dr Graham Mcswan

Dr Graham McSwan has worked extensively in General Practice. He has attained degrees in both Pharmacy and Medicine having studied at Sydney University and subsequently at the University of Newcastle.

Dr McSwan trained at The Prince of Wales Hospital, Randwick, in many areas including – Paediatrics, Geriatrics, General Surgery, General Medicine, Anaesthetics and Emergency Medicine.  He specialised in General Practice and is a Fellow of the College of General Practitioners.

He has diverse areas of interest in General Practice including preventative medicine, paediatrics, geriatrics and sports medicine.

Dr McSwan enjoys all sports, particularly cricket, tennis, soccer and NRL and spends most of his spare time transporting his children to and from these venues.

Dr Joachim Sturmberg

Dr Sturmberg achieved his medical degree in Germany and emigrated to Australia in 1985. He re-trained in Australia and gained his MBBS in Sydney.

He moved to the Central Coast and commenced working at Wamberal Surgery in 1989 and has been here ever since.

Dr Sturmberg has a special interest in allergies, integrated comprehensive care, nursing home care, skin surgery, research of quality primary care and health care reform. He has had articles published in medical journals and is actively involved in assisting the University of Newcastle with medical student training.

Dr Alison Mooney

Alison is originally from Scotland and graduated from Newcastle upon Tyne University in the UK in 2008. 

She has been working on the Central Coast since 2010, initially in hospital medicine, gaining further experience in emergency, oncology and palliative care.  She has completed a Diploma in Child Health and Palliative Care and is also an accredited NDC (neuroprotective developmental care) practitioner, also known as the Possums approach to infant sleep and settling.

Alison enjoys many aspects of General Practice.  Special areas of interest include:

  • Women’s health
  • Contraception including Mirena and Implanon insertion
  • Perimenopause and menopause management
  • Infant sleep and settling concerns
  • Child health
  • Preventative medicine

Outside of work, Alison enjoys running, reading and trying to keep up with her two energetic young boys!

Dr Diana Treece

Diana graduated from Sheffield University in the UK in 2004. She worked in Hospital Medicine in the fields of Paediatrics, Geriatrics, Endocrinology and General Surgery. She moved to Sydney and she worked at Royal North Shore and Ryde Hospital in Emergency Medicine.

Diana completed her GP training with further terms in Obstetrics, Gynaecology, Dermatology and Rheumatology. She has completed Diplomas in Child Health 2008, Tropical Medicine and Hygiene 2009 and has a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education with distinction in 2011. She worked in New Delhi, India for the WHO doing an internship in Public Health followed by a year volunteering in rural Malawi, setting up an emergency triage service with UK Government funding. She worked at Mwanza District General Hospital on the malnutrition unit and general paediatric care mainly managing cases of malaria, respiratory and gastrointestinal illnesses.

Diana has lived and practised medicine on the Central Coast over 10years and strives to provide an excellent, comprehensive service to patients.

Dr Mohammed Iqbal Meeran

MBBS, MRCGP, FRACGP, DPD(Cardiff)

Dr Meeran completed his medical degree in India in 2001 and in the same year he moved to the UK where he worked as a House Officer and Senior House Officer in various hospitals in North England.

He completed his GP training in 2007 in Cumbria. He went on to own a GP Clinic where he practised for 10 years before moving to Australia. He also did one session a week as a speciality doctor in Dermatology in Newcastle Hospitals NHS Trust in England. He has worked for 1 year as a GP in Central Coast NSW before moving to Perth. Dr Meeran is an enthusiastic and motivated GP who enjoys all aspects of General Practice. He is an excellent communicator and believes in building long term doctor – patient relationships to provide excellent quality care. He has special interest in chronic disease management, mental health issues and patients with complex health issues. He has been actively involved in teaching medical students, junior doctors and GP trainees both in the UK and in Australia.

 

Dr Eliza Davis

Dr Eliza Davis graduated from the University of Western Sydney in 2011 before working as a junior doctor at Gosford and Wyong Hosptials. 

After qualifying as a GP through RACGP she worked at Family Planning NSW and General Practices across Sydney and Perth. Returning to the coast with her young family she has recently started at Wamberal Surgery. Eliza has a passion for women’s health, contraceptive care, sexual health and preventative health care. 

 

FLU SHOTS NOW AVAILABLE

Protect yourself and your community this flu season. Flu vaccinations are now available at our clinic. Please call us on 4384 2255 to book in.

We will be running dedicated flu vaccination clinics commencing 14 April 2026, held in the mornings from 7:30am to 9:00am for a limited number of weeks.

Flu vaccinations are free for eligible patients under the National Immunisation Program for the following:

  • Children aged 6 months to under 5 years
  • Adults aged 65 years and over
  • Pregnant women (at any stage of pregnancy)
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 6 months and over
  • People aged 6 months and over with certain medical conditions, including:
    • Heart disease
    • Chronic lung conditions (e.g. asthma)
    • Diabetes
    • Kidney disease
    • Neurological conditions
    • Weakened immune system

A private fee of $22 is  payable if not listed above.

FluMist® Needle-Free Nasal Spray

You may have seen recent media coverage regarding the release of the needle-free nasal flu vaccine, FluMist®.

Availability and Eligibility

  • FluMist® is available free under the National Immunisation Program (NIP) for children aged 2, 3, and 4 years.
  • For individuals aged 5 to 17 years (inclusive), FluMist® may be accessed via private prescription, with an approximate cost of $50 through pharmacies.
  • The vaccine is reported to provide protection for up to 12 months.

 

Please Note:

FluMist® – Contraindications and Precautions

FluMist® (needle-free nasal influenza vaccine) is not suitable for everyone. It should not be used in the following groups:

Contraindications

  • Children under 2 years of age or adults 18 years and over
  • Individuals with a history of severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) to any component of the vaccine or a previous influenza vaccine
  • Immunocompromised individuals (e.g. due to medical conditions or immunosuppressive therapy)
  • Children and adolescents receiving aspirin or salicylate therapy
  • Pregnant women

Precautions (medical advice required before use)

  • History of severe asthma or active wheezing
  • Close contact with severely immunocompromised individuals (e.g. bone marrow transplant patients in protective isolation)
  • Recent use of antiviral medications for influenza
  • Moderate to severe acute illness (vaccination may need to be delayed)
