Appointments

Wamberal Surgery operates by appointments only.

This helps to minimise your wait time.

To secure an appointment with your chosen doctor, at a time to suit your needs, select the book now button above or call as early as you can for non-urgent medical care.

Each day we allocate and reserve “Book on the day” appointments for urgent medical care. Wamberal Surgery strives to accommodate medically urgent care that requires review on the day.

To ensure continuity of care, your medical records are accessible by all of the doctors, in case your preferred doctor is unavailable.

Wamberal Surgery also has a full time registered nurse on duty Monday to Friday for all nursing care, immunisations and other services. You may call the surgery to book an appointment with the nursing team.

Important Information

Should you require a long appointment with your doctor, please advise reception at the time of making the appointment. A long consultation will be required if you wish to discuss multiple or complex health problems, completion of forms for Insurance or Medicals etc. If you are unsure, please ask Reception.

Repeat prescriptions and referrals forms are preferred in consultation with the doctor. Please ensure you come prepared with a list of scripts/referrals you require prior to your consultation.

For repeats prescriptions/referrals you can submit a request through the HotDoc Quick Consult option on our website. Please note that conditions apply and approval is at your doctor’s discretion.

Please be aware the patient will personally be responsible for all cost which will be paid at time of consultation. Once the Practice has received a Claim Number cost will be paid by the insurance company.

Medical Records
Should you wish to have your medical records sent to another practice, we can provide a brief Health summary free of charge. Should you require a complete medical history, you will need to obtain a “Transfer of Medical Records Form” from the new practice you are attending (fees may apply)

This is a secure, electronic record of your medical history, stored and shared in a network of connected systems, e.g Hospitals, GP’s, etc. Please notify the doctor if you would like to opt out.

We encourage and welcome patient feedback, so we can continue improving our services. It is hoped you are happy with the care you have received at Wamberal Surgery. If you have a complaint, it is advisable to speak directly to the Practice Manager, or the doctor, thereby ensuring prompt attention to the problem. Should your problem remain unresolved, you may contact the Health Care Complaints Commission on 1800 043 159

Payment is required at the time of consultation and electronic notification to Medicare is available. We accept eftpos, cash, or credit card. Personal cheques are not desirable. If Medicare has your bank account details, your refund should be paid to your account within 24 hours, otherwise a refund cheque is posted to you from Medicare.

We do not issue accounts.

Wamberal Surgery has procedures in place for your confidentiality. Your medical records are stored electronically. We adhere to the National Privacy Principles. For more information regarding your medical records, please ask our staff.

It is practice policy that all requests for the transfer of medical records are accompanied by a completed Authority to Release – Medical Records Transfer form. This ensures that the transfer of patient information is conducted securely, accurately, and in accordance with privacy regulations. Completing this form allows us to confirm the patient’s consent, specify which records are to be released, and identify the receiving practice or provider. We kindly ask that the form be submitted at the time of your request to facilitate a smooth and timely transfer of your medical records.

An administration fee of $20 per individual or $30 for up to 4 immediate family members.

Under Australian privacy law, practices may charge a reasonable fee for the administrative cost of preparing and transferring medical records. We will release your records as soon as the transfer fee is paid. Please let us know if you have any concerns.

IMPORTANT MEDICARE UPDATE FROM 1ST JULY 2026

From 1 July 2026, the Australian Government is changing the way patients provide consent for Medicare bulk-billed services. This process is called an Assignment of Benefit (AoB).

When you are bulk billed, you are assigning your Medicare rebate directly to your doctor or healthcare provider as payment for the service. Under the new rules, we must obtain and record your consent before we can submit a Medicare claim.

What does this mean for you?

  • You may be asked to confirm your consent electronically via SMS, email, tablet, or a paper form.
  • This consent allows Medicare to pay your rebate directly to the practice for your bulk-billed consultation.
  • The process is more secure and gives patients greater visibility of their Medicare claims.
  • There is no additional cost to you if your appointment is bulk billed.

What do I need to do?
If your appointment is eligible for bulk billing, you may receive a consent request by SMS, email, or be asked to provide consent in the clinic. This authorises Medicare to pay your rebate directly to the practice for your consultation, which allows us to process your Medicare claim correctly and remain compliant with Medicare requirements.

Please ensure you complete the consent request promptly. If consent is not provided, we are unable to submit a bulk-billed Medicare claim on your behalf. In these circumstances, your consultation may be converted to a privately billed consultation, and payment of the full consultation fee will be required on the day.

If you receive a consent request from us, please complete it as soon as possible

If you have any questions, our team will be happy to assist.

We appreciate your understanding.

With thanks from the team at Wamberal Surgery
